Stixer shifting sand dune

One of the region's most important natural monuments is the Stixer shifting sand dune. It is situated between Kaarßen and Zeetze and originated in the last Ice Age. The dune encompasses an area of ca. 10 ha and is still active today.
In 1982 the 'Stixer shifting sand dune' was declared protected landscape as special plants grow here. For example whitish hair-grass but also moss and reindeer moos. Pine trees grow around the shifting sand dune as they don't mind the sandy soil.
The dune is accessible via a designated path and one can enjoy a wonderful view from the viewing platform.
