Presentation of the town Crimmitschau

To the large district town Crimmitschau belong the communities  Frankenhausen with Gosel and Gösau, Blankenhain, Langenreinsdorf, Mannichswalde, Lauenhain, Gablenz and Rudelswalde.
The town's cradle, the present Palace Schweinsburg in Neukirchen, stems from the year 1120. The first cloth maker guild in Crimmitschau was founded in the year 1429. In the following centuries the town developed into a factory town and until 1989 most of the population was working in the textile branch.

The city centre has a lot of landmarks to offer. The spinning lady in the market fountain is dedicated to the working women in the textile industry and their fight for equal opportunities for women. The 2,10m high symbol figure was created in the year 1967 by the sculptor Hans Eickworth.

Also at the market place one can see at the Herrengasse a glorious renaissance-portal. The copy on the market side is made of sandstone and was erected in 1992.

Inside the archway one can admire the nearly complete parts of the originals as wall decoration. Written in Latin and German is the psalm 121: „Meine Hülfe kömpt vom Herrn, der gemacht hat Himmel und Erden.“ (My help comes from the lord, whose made heaven and earth)

The Crimmitschau Town Hall has experienced many highs and depths in the course of its history. The tin figure Roland from 1892, symbol of the urban market freedom and independence was melted down in 1943 for war purposes. In June 1994 the successor returned onto the town hall roof, made of copper, as a gift of a Crimmitschau craftsman and entrepreneur.

On the occasion of the 500-year town's charter in the year 1914 the Wettin Fountain at the Bismarckhain was donated by the Saxon state government. It was inaugurated in the presence of King August on the 13th July. The fountain is a creation by the artist Edmund Möller from Dresden and is made of Postaer Elbsandstein. The figures embodies the town's trade and industry diligence.
