The zoological garden Liberec is the Czech Republic's oldest zoo. It was built in 1919 and has an area of ca 13ha. The visitor-round-walk has a length of 3km.
It specialised in the breeding of rare and endangered wild animal species. One can see here 140 species of 1000 different animals. It has been included into the EEP
(European Endangered Species Programme) with 27 species, Musa-ox , Humboldt penguins, bearded vultures, Sumatran Orang-Utan, Somali wild donkeys and other rare animals.
A rarity among the animals is the white tiger. The Birds-House with its different bird species is also very attractive, here one can come too face to face see with a crocodil, gopher and iguanas.
The Liberec Zoo offers excursion through the modern enclosures of giraffes, monkeys, penguins, snow leopards, birds of prey, Orang-Utans, cheetahs and many other animals.
There are many interesting attractions including Ecotrain, which is being arranged for children at any time.
