Welcome to Kotzen

Contrary to what some malicious people say the name Kotzen (vomit) stems from the Slavic and probably derives from plants. Kosm = Haar, Haarbüschel (hair, tuft of hair)Kosmjalki=Wollgras (cotton grass). The historical terms Cozym, Cossym, Cossa also confirm that there is no reason for second guessing. But the village name is so interesting that in GDR times the village entry sign often vanished during the night - visitor's souvenir.

For a long time this village was also owned by the family von Bredow. Kotzen's oldest building is the well preserved church with a bell from 1557. The church was built on the foundation of a chapel from the 13th-century. The village Rhinluch, directly situated at the B188, served in the past as barbican with watermill and sheep farm.
