Welcome to Damme

The name of the village points to a Slaw settlement on one of the seven islands of the Havelland, because "Damb" means "oak". first known owner was Rudolf von Jerichow a relative of the  Wenden Prince Pribislav of Brandenburg. He gave it as a present as a sign of his devotion to Christianity and to evade persecution to the cathedral chapter of  Brandenburg.

On the 26th of May 1811 the whole village including the church was destroyed by a great fire. The inscription on the bell of the newly built church in 1822 reminds us of the catastrophe: "Diese Glocke ist am 26.ten Mai 1811 geschmolzen und 1839 von G.C. Bachmann in Berlin wieder neu gegossen worden. Derzeitiger Pastor Hirschberg".
The district Damme borders the great bustard's conservation reserve of the nature conservation station Buckow - a trip well worth especially for nature fans.
