The old town is still being bordered by the town wall in the west and the north.

The wall was built in several stages from 1300 onwards - raised for a last time after the great fire of 1478.

Architectonically of special value and the town gates are unique for Brandenburg.

Damm-Gate, Neumarkt-Gate and Zinnaer Gate, all built after the town fire of 1478.

There were again and again construction changes during the past centuries but all three gates testify in an impressive way the desire of medieval towns for protection.

The town wall is being completed with several towers of which seven can still be seen.

The usage of field-stones and bricks marks different building phases.
