Wendish Spree, as the little river Dahme was once called attracts with a pretty old town. Lovely town houses, the town hall built with a rich imagination, the former Minster, the town church St. Marien, a palace ruin and the remnants of the town wall form the townscape of this town with its rich history.

Not far from St. Marien marks the ruin of the former Dahmer baroque palace the farthest north-east end of the old town and the very spot where the water tower was situated in the Middle Ages.

The building of the palace in the year 1711 begun on the remnants of the medieval water-surrounded castle.

It was used by Prussian troops as military hospital during the German Wars of Liberation 1813, whereby the interior suffered very badly.

The facility went to the town in 1873 and a school was accommodated.

The palace stayed unscathed until the fifties only then started the dilapidation of the building. There many ideas for usage but its execution failed every time.

Preserved is the nearby half-timbered storage building.

The palace park has been created in the style of a country garden and invites walks and a visit to the animal enclosure , where mostly fallow deer can be watched.
