The St. Johannis-Church in Luckenwalde was built in the second half of the 15th century.

Using an older hall church made of field-stones a two-nave hall of five yokes with short on three sides closed choir was built.

According to the order's regulation of the Cistercian monks the church received no tower but only a little ridge turret for the bells.

The deciding rebuilding responsible for today's look was done from 1901 to 1903. Valuable late-gothic wall and vault paintings were found during restoration work at the churches interior.
