Directly at the centre of the city Kiel, between pedestrian zone and Schwedenkai, is the newly designed "Kieler Bootshafen" situated. The over 100 year old boats harbour served for a long time as internal small city port and has been redesigned as inner-city recreation and strolling mile in the year 2004. This historical picture shows the Bootshafen before the modernisation.

From the Bootshafen immediately at the Schwedenkai, from where daily world-famous cruise ships start their world trips and the ferries of the Stena-Linie into the Swedish Gothenburg, one has a great view onto the harbour and the city centre.
