The Tecklenburger North Rail from Osnabrück-Eversburg to Rheine, was opened as a narrow-gauge railway with a track gauge of 1000 mm, in the year 1905. In the beginning, the trains travelled with a speed of only 30km/h, three decades later, after the change to standard gauge, trains were able to do 50 km/h without any concerns.

In the years 1960 and 1967, the passenger transport was discontinued by and by.

Apart from the freight trains of the Regionalverkehr Münsterland (RVM), only the historical steam trains of the Teuto-Express travel at
Whitsun and during the Advent's time as Santa Claus Express from Osnabrück to Mettingen and Recke.
