Nature Reserve Nuthe-Nieplitz

image author: city-map Teltow Fläming

The rivers Nuthe and Nieplitz give the nature reserve its name. The rivers, once wild and undomesticated have been again and again regulated and straightened during the centuries. Flooded meadows and natural wooded countryside in the Nature Reserve Nuthe-Nieplitz reminds one of the original wilderness; an eldorado for many rare animals and plants. Ospreys and sea-eagles can be watched in the sky. Thousands of Nordic wild geese and cranes are resting at the shallow water lakes during in spring and autumn.

A game enclosure was created at the former army training ground Glau. The project combines nature preservation, research and tourism in a very unique way. Visitors are able to study in a fenced-in terrain of ca 160ha the animals in their natural habitat.

Most of the old Markish villages have their own stork horst. Many have also interesting field-stone churches. The lowland landscape is ideal for hiking and cycling.
