The Nature Reserve is situated in the southern Brandenburg. A large part of the area was influenced by brown coal opencast mining.

Brown coal mining ceased in 1991 and restoration was started.

This way fields and meadows, heath-land and bogs, lake landscapes were created....

Here at the Nature Reserve is one of Germany's most southern crane gathering and resting places. You are able to watch the passage of the cranes from a bird watch tower.
