Since the end of the 14th-century the Lüner mill has been working. Originally belonging to the monastery Lüne, it came into the estate of the Amt Lüne after the reformation in the 16th-century and later to the town of Lüneburg itself. How good the incline above the port really was is indicated by the fact that the mill could be operated with an overshot wheel. The former corn and oil mill at the right Ilmenau river bank was operated together with the Abts-mill as Abts- und Lüner Mühle GmbH last. Today the mill building from the year 1597 is being used as restaurant.

In 1147 the Abts-mill was gifted to the abbot of the St. Michaelis church by Henry the Lion. The mill building was renewed in 1579 and in 1530 the 'water art' tower built, which is powered by a water scoop from the Abts-mill: On certain days of the month the population was not allowed to pour excrement into the Ilmenau river. Because then water from the river was pumped into the water tower for producing beer. The present mill was constructed in 1880 and worked well into the 1990ties. Today the mill building and the water tower are being used as guesthouse of the opposite located hotel Bergström.
