Among Krefeld's diverse perspective a view of and into Linn Castle has a very special charm. Castle, outer bailey, hunting lodge and moat formed one unit with the small town of Linn. A long history chapter can be read at this picturesque part of the town. The castle was founded in the 12th-century. The well-fortified house experienced its heydays when it was used by a Klevish duchess dowager in the 13th-century. In 1702 the castle went up in flames during the Spanish war of succession. More than 200 years later the Lower Rhine explorer Prof. Albert Steeger provided a new fortification to set a museum in the 30ties.
