Joint Community Sittensen

The term 'joint community' is probably new for you. Joint communities are a Lower Saxon 'invention'. Simplified said, these are local authorities, which administer central administration tasks for the legally independent member communities like schooling, passport and registration, social affairs as well as tasks of the fire brigade - in close collaboration with the local voluntary fire brigade. Central contact point for citizens is the town hall in Sittensen.

Close to Sittensen's town hall is the St. Dionysius church situated. The church was probably built around 797 on the 'Strietbarg', an old Germanic assembly and sacrificial site in Sittensen. The present tower, with a height of 48 metres, stems from 1909. The last big interior renovation took place in 1994/95.

What our village has to offer

The local authority with the central and biggest village 'Sittensen', which has around 5.300 inhabitants, has three schools. There is one primary school in Sittensen and one in Klein Meckelsen. The school centre in Sittensen offers a secondary school with an orientation level up to the year 10. For the little ones, there are two kindergartens, children's play-groups are in Klein Mecklesen and Wohnste. Sittensen is in fact a 'community' (colloquial 'village' ) but offers everything that man/woman needs. Even though we try to keep our rural character, we are really a little city already.
