It is a piece of life's quality: On a warm summers day cycling to the swimming lake, to be able to swim and to relax in a wonderful environment. Even longer are the faces once the lake "tips over". The reasons are manifold. However one can manage the issue if everybody pulls together.

In the early summer of 2002 a mass occurrence of blue algae in the lake of Otterstedt took place. This problem did not happen for the first time, rather the lake developed into such a bad state due to the overloading of nutrients over decades. Also in the early years green algae growth was observed but not to such a large degree.

Our objectives

Independently of each other many interested and worried people approached the responsible authorities in 2002, in order to highlight the algae concentration in the lake of Otterstedt. Additionally the issue was how to handle the consequences of the algae blossom.
