The village is situated at the slope of the Iberg, part of the Grubenhagen mountains, which carry the name Ahlsburg today. Due to its location Iber doesn't suffer from the cold airstream, which run through the deeper Leine valley as in the east a higher located forest tongue pushed forward and a mound protects from borealis.
The monk Nikolaus Mey from the Einbeck Augustine monastery held the village Iber's first Lutheran sermon at this place on the 1. Advent in the year 1539. Later Johannes Letzner took over the rectorate, noted in his chronicles is:
The church was built on the Herrenhof. In 1183 a new God's house was built and richly presented with gifts by the masters in Iber.
The electrification of the village took place in the year 1911, water supply followed shortly afterwards in 1912.
Iber became a district of the town Einbeck by incorporation in 1974.
