In the winter of 1944/45 and in the spring of 1945 a military hospital and an emergency hospital was setup on the terrain of the former Grünhof. Since that time until June 1992 the hospital stayed in the house of the bailiff.

In the mid-90ties - until the completion of the primary school in Neuhaus - some rooms in the building were used as school rooms temporarily.

In the years 1999 and 2000 followed a complete redevelopment under the aspects of monumental care of this very valuable building. It is being used as a contact point for tourists since April 2000. In the course of the year numerous events take place here for locals and tourists alike.

Since 2007 the house of the guest is information place for the biosphere reserve 'Niedersächsische Elbtalaue' with an exhibition.
