The village Höckelheim with a population of 1187 (status 01/2008) is situated in the rural district Northeim between Harz and Solling in south of Lower Saxony.
On the 1. July 1970 Höckelheim was the first community, which was incorporated into the town Northeim on a voluntary basis.

Höckelheim is for sure one of the oldest villages in the area of the town Northeim. It is assumed that the village was named after the 'monastery Höckelheim' well over 1000 years ago.

As in so many other villages in the district Northeim Höckelheim also has an active club life.
Verifiable the were clubs in Höckelheim already before the turn of the century. Some still exist today like the voluntary fire brigade, the warrior and shooting club, the sports club. Höckelheim is especially proud of its four carnival clubs. The 'Höckelsche Fastnacht' is known well beyond the border of the district Northeim.

The former minster of Höckelheim was built in the year 1470. An old stone with the year 1470 indicates that. This stone still exists today. The minster was used till the year 1780, but today's Marien church was built in the same place in the year 1794 only.
