The historical village names were 1382 Helmsingrode, 1401 Helmessingerode, 1427 Helmensingerode, 1435 Helmssingerode, 1480 Helmscherode, around 1510 Helmsirode, 1524 Helmeskerode, 1542 Helmscherode, 1678 Helmscherohda.
Georg Hassel and Karl Friedrich Bege counted in the year 1803 altogether 27 fireplaces with 172 citizens
- 1. Court Helmscherode.
- The court Helmscherode, as part of the department of Gandersheim and under their superior court of justice has also no royal right of justice. The court is not listed in the "Rittermatrikel", yet is governing the lower courts of the village and the surrounding. It is a Klevesches manor and belongs now to the Majorin Brauns, and has been alodificirted since 1796.
- 1) Helmscherode, a 5/4 part of Gandersheim in N. occuping church village with the special court yard, 1 chapel, 1 school, which the priest and the community allocates, 1 Ackh., 2 Hlbsp., 16 Köth., 27 F. and 172 E. It is located below the Heber at Rotenbeeke, and in its vicinity you find the river stones which are required for the iron melting process. Great quantities are being brought to the Wilhelmshütte (steelworks). The now destroyed village of Goltorf is located in the village, which inhabitants settled themselves in this area.
In the year 1904 Prussia surrendered the community district of Lamspringe to the community district of Helmscherode.[3]
