Half-timbered church Bluno

One of the oldest preserved half-timbered churches can be viewed in Bluno (Sorbian Blun).
Elector Johann George the third ordered the church construction in September in the year 1670. The church was inaugurated in 1673. 100 years later it got a tower, which was made, with the exception of the base, entirely from wood. The church has typical for the area pulpit altar, a 'Madonna with child' from the year 1480 and a figure group from the 13th century, which was largely in its original form preserved. The plank door with its iron mountings and the leaded windows are also still originals. Some years ago the half-timbered construction had to be supported by a 1 metre high wall rim all around the church.

Bluno is situated at the state border to Brandenburg, north of Hoyerswerda as part of the community Elsterheide. One can reach the place coming from  Hoyerswerda by car via the a B 97 in direction Spremberg and from the turn off Spreetal the B 156. The name Bluno indicates the original facility at a pasture ground in the woods. It goes back to the lower-Sorbian word Blon "pasture ground" or "herding area with trees".
