Community Lindhorst

Lindhorst, situated in the former district Schaumburg-Lippe, is an early medieval cleared settlement. The founding dates back roughly to the year 1000 AD. So the village is older than the planned colonisation of the neighbouring Hagenhuf villages Lüdersfeld, Vornhagen, Hülshagen and Lauenhagen, which were created at the cleared Dühlwald (Dühlholz) in the 13th-century.

After years of stagnation the community was revived through the connection to the newly created railway line Hanover- Minden in 1847. Due to the train station Lindhorst had several functions, which were very beneficial for the village's development.

In the years 1950 to 1961 the community registered a strong population increase through the development of the miners' housing estate. The population increased from around 1800 to well over 4000. In 1974 the former independent communities Ottensen and Schöttlingen were incorporated into the in community Lindhorst.

The district Schöttlingen consists of 10 houses and farmsteads only, is rurally structured but can look back onto its own century old history. The district Ottensen, belongs
to the former county Schaumburg, took part several times successfully in the competition 'Our village shall become more beautiful'.

The community Lindhorst is accounted for as a basic supply centre in the regional urban planning programme.
By designating housing estates and industrial sites in Lindhorst a basic for further development in the village was created. The village has a complete infrastructure. Several shops, supermarkets, trades, doctors and pharmacies take care of everyday needs.

Right now a pro land development scheme is being setup in Lindhorst with the financial support of the state Lower Saxony and rural district Schaumburg, in cooperation with citizens and community administration, a unique programme until now. An old agricultural farmstead in the centre is being redeveloped into a village community centre. On the same site freehold flats with the option of assisted living under the motto 'joined cross-generation at Hof Gümmer' are being built.

The whole basic building structure at the historical farmstead (Hof Gümmer) receives a modern future-orientated energy supply, consisting of boiler technology, combined heat and power supply - both facilities are being powered by sulphur-free domestic fuel oil - and solar thermal energery. The energy supply is being guaranteed by local power supplier.

Through connection to the commuter railway system region Hanover there are now excellent connection also for commuter to the neighbouring centres of Hanover and Minden as well as the market town Stadthagen.
