Carl Brügmann started his first mill operation here in 1833. It burned down due to overheated breaks at a storm in 1889 and was soon rebuilt.

The present octagonal smock mill stands on a square brick base. It is still owned and operated by the family Brügmann. Since 1954 the mill is working exclusively with electric power as the wind work has become obsolete. Today the Artlenburger Mill Association takes loving care of the smock mill.
