A warm welcome to the region Oberspreewald-Lausitz

The landscape of the Spreewald is unique in Europe. The cultivated river basin with a net of
970km running waters attracts annually lots of visitors. Traditional rowing boat trips through the water labyrinth start in many villages. A popular destination is the lagoon village Lehde, a village of Lübbenau. Many of the small island farmsteads in the 'rural Venice' are connected with each other by small and large waterways. In At the 200-year old houses past customs and crafts become alive again.

You can hire a canoe if you want to discover the Spreewald on your own or explore the region on the many cycle and hiking trails. The canals of the Spreewald exist not only for the visitors' pleasure. Villagers in the centre of the Spreewald use these sign-posted waterways to reach work, school or shops. In winter the frozen arms of the river can be used for ice-skating or tobogganing.

A popular meeting point for friends of the motor sports is the newly built  EuroSpeedway Lausitz, where races and big events take place regularly. The racing track is near Senftenberg, a town where tradition mixes with modern times: in the middle of the brown coal territory springs up the impressive fortress from the 16th century.
Culture, technique and nature are closely connected in the Niederlausitz. The Senftenberger Lake was created in 1966 by artificial flooding of a former mining area and is today as well as the garden-city Marga a popular destination.
