Wülfrath, with ca. 22.000 citizens is the smallest town in the district Mettmann. It is known for chalk mining. Who doesn't know the Wülfrather cement? In the Middle Ages Wülfrath was most of all a craftman village. Later wage-weaver worked from home for the manufactures in (Wuppertal-)Elberfeld and (Velbert-)Langenberg. Towards the end of the 19th-century chalk mining started in Wülfrath. The chalk industry became important fast.

Old craftsman's cottages grouped around the time-honoured Protestant town church. Unmistakable: slate clad facades - we are here in the Bergish Land. We love to stroll over the old cobbles or sit outside a pub and enjoy the atmosphere. We see lovingly cared for or restored typical Bergish houses.

New buildings blend successfully into the townscape.

Wülfrath's landscape is also charming. It is situated amidst the green Lower Bergish countryside. A geological landmark can be seen in Wülfrath-Düssel at the Tillmannsdorfer Straße: the Tillmannsdorfer saddle fold - a fold of stratums.
