The Wieting moor

The Wieting moor encompasses the northern and central Wieting moor as well as the Neustädter moor (southern Wieting moor) in the heart of the Diepholz moor lowlands. It stretches in the northwest German basin on a length of roughly 25km between Twistringen and Wagenfeld in the city triangle Bremen - Osnabrück - Hanover.
Size: ca 5000 hectares. The area is interesting because of its flora and fauna, which boast a list of species which have became rare in Germany and its unspoiled landscape.

Since the year 2000 the crane has discovered wide parts of the large Wieting moor as breeding grounds. During this time the annual invasion of thousands of migrating cranes happens mostly in spring and autumn. People in the area are used to it by now. Nobody knows how many birds are there during the total migrating period and chose the habitat of the Diepholz moor lowland for a time.

The region Diepholz moor lowland is situated with the Dümmer at different running bird migrating routes from north to south or from east to west. The Wieting moor is located in the heart of this area and 'combs' with its large length of 25 kilometres and its attractive water surfaces many birds from the air, which in turn stay for a while.
