The Werdauer Forest

The nearby recreation area and protected landscape Werdauer Forest west of the town Werdau stretches all the way to Thuringia. Independent of seasons a visit to the Werdauer Forest is always recommended. The Werdauer Forest is a magnet for the people from the region on summer weekends. Hiker, cyclists and even inline-skater enjoy the well-constructed paths. There is a road network of ca 13km available for riders.

Good sign-posting makes sure that one doesn't loose time with orientation and popular venues like the Elfer Lake or the water lily pond are easily found. Even wood art can here in the woods be admired.

An especially interesting destination is the log canal. The newly created forest nature trail gives information about log driving of wood from the  Werdauer Forest into areas around Leipzig, which don't have a lot of wood. Information charts brings visitors history from the time of 1578 – 1733 nearer. A view onto the area natural monument Rohrteich very near the nature trail should not be missed.

The restaurant Weidmannsruh takes care of your physical well-being. But also an excursion to the Erdbeerschänke in the Leubnitzer Waldsiedlung is not to be sneezed at. If the sportive activities brought out the sweat, refresh yourself either at the Waldbad Fraureuth or the public outdoor swimming pool Leubnitz.

Lastly a recommendation for parents: Do visit the Waldsportplatz Hasenheide. Your children will be delighted.
