The presentation of the community Oldendorf...

Visitors have to leave the main roads to get to know the 'idyllic corners' of Stade's geest.

Everything here is still like 'the good old days'. A countryside just right for the people who have had enough from the everyday hustle and bustle and want to have peace and quiet. The attraction is the change from forest to meadows, raised bog, quiet riverbanks and small contemplative villages - with all its leisure possibilities

People have lived here since the early days. One can find very old stone and prehistoric graves and from other finds one knows that there was a saxon settlement already in the 2. and 3. century. There are first written testimonials from the 11. century and there are two ca. 800 years old fieldstone churches. The inhabitants today still enjoy their old traditions:

Here one of the last barge ferries crosses over the Oste; one has to use these quaint vehicle oneself to experience the charm of the unhurried past. Bicycle, carriage and covered wagon are the fitting means of transportation in this peaceful countryside. If you want to rest your feet, water sports on the Oste is a delightful alternative.

Should you come back hungry, order the traditional menu: 'Tokokers' ....
