The palace Großkmehlen was built as a renaissance palace in the 16th-century. Circa 100 years later extensive renovations were carried out. The impressive Baroque stucco work at the first floor stems probably from Italian artists. The former moat and also the 4 hectare large park have been preserved. The enormous moated palace was built with the inclusion of an elderly building in the middle of the 16th century.

After the family von Lüttichau was feoffed with Großkmehlen (1499), it then came to a distribution of the estate between the brothers Hans and Wolfgang in 1540. After that the estate was divided into two.

The outside of the palace is determined by high saddleback roofs and Renaissance gables. A century later the interior was extensively changed, in parts figurative, Baroque stucco shows that impressively.
