The Old Post of Grossflecken

image author: Martin Lutz

On the 1st of October 1886 the imperial post office at the Großflecken was inaugurated. For this occasion 12 postal civil clerks and 28 lower clerks reported in gala uniform. The building was one of 2000 post offices in the representative style of North-German red-brick gothic, which appeared during the term of general postmaster von Stephan.

The square platform on the roof was starting point for the public telephone network, which started with initially 25 participants in December 1888.

After the post office's move into a new building at the Friedrichstraße, the 'Alte-Post-Passage' in the historical post office with restaurants and specialised shops was opened on the 15th of October 1959.
