Luckenwalde's charm is created by its thrilling urban division.

The centre with market, Breite and Baruther Straße depicts the historic settlement core. Here we'll find the town's oldest building among them the parish church St. Johannis, the market tower, some half-timbered houses and the town hall.

The best place to start a city tour is the market in the historical centre. The medieval buildings were lost during the Thirty-Year War and by town fires.

Luckenwalde's not to be overlooked landmark is the market tower. By now one has distances oneself from the view that the building was an early part of a German castle - bit its origin still rise to the most diverse theories.

The construction was most probably a Madgeburg-archbishopric customs tower before Luckenwalde was sold to the Monastery Zinna, as the Nuthe was then the eastern border river of the archbishopric.

Undisputed is that the tower served in 1484 as steeple for the neighbouring church. The gothic brick floor above field-stone foundation stems probably from this time.

Baroque style roof hood and lantern top since 1730 the market tower.

The Local Museum offers guided tower tours for groups from 10 persons onwards. At clear sight one can see as far as the Berlin television tower.
