The Judicial Scale in Osterode, Harz

image author: Axel Gömann

The judicial scale in the Waagestr., also called 'Hus für Hochziter' (house of grooms), was a festival and wedding house for the Osteroder.

The house, built in 1550, got its name from history, when goods were still weighted here.
The high pulled gable, the sun-rose embellishment and the scare mask at the top of the gable that should protect the house from adversity catches one's eye especially.

A fire destroyed the building in 1969, but the front could be preserved and thus be restored.
