The history of Langwedel's town hall

Already in the territorial changing agreement from the year 1972, the construction of a central administration building was stipulated. The construction was to start as soon as the necessary funding were available. As other more pressing community tasks had priority the administration was housed in the redeveloped former school building in the village of Langwedel. This building became too small in the course of time. In December 1984 the idea to build a town hall was once again picked up.
In February 1985 after different town hall viewings a unanimous decision was taken and three architecture firms were commissioned to supply preliminary drafts on the 6th of March 1985. At the same time a planning group was setup. First there were difference of opinions between two preliminary drafts and also about the necessity and size of a hall. This in turn lead to the commission of a economy consulting company to analyse and evaluate the two drafts. The result as well as further thoughts, especially about a more suitable central location at the Landesstraße in close proximity to the school lead to a broad consensus and so the order was given to the architecture firm Holst, Schambeck and Wilckens from Bremervörde on the 15. April 1986. Accommodation for the police station as well as the social welfare work office Langwedel/Kirchlinteln were incorporated into the town hall.

On the 29. September 1986 the foundation followed and on the 12. June 1987 the topping-out ceremony. The community administration as well as the police station and the social welfare office have been working since the 14. March 1988. Once the Bürgersaal was finished the inauguration took place on the 16. April.

On 01. January 2005 the social welfare office moved to the 'Schule am Goldbach'. The accommodation in the town hall is now also used by the police station.

The town hall is sectioned in a way that every office has its own corridor and can be reached from the central foyer. The central entrance hall can also be closed off at the ground floor as well as the first floor and the Bürgersaal can be annexed.
The Bürgersaal can either became a meeting room by sliding variable divider or can be connected with the foyer by using more dividers. This way larger events have its own individual functional and diverse sectioned surface.

Inside the town hall are 32 offices with an area of altogether 780 m² available. Four offices are being used by the police station.
Old files and lost property are being stored in the cellar in 13 archive rooms.
The Bürgersaal with 173 m² and the adjacent meeting room with 67 m² are available for meetings and cultural events.
With 43 car parking spaces of those 3 in near the entrance for the disabled there are adequate parking possibilities for visitors and employees available.

The total cost amounted to around 5,1 million DM (now around 2,6 million €) .
