Only little is left over form the town's fortress facility. The Fleischerbastei (Butcher-Bastion) at the Grünen Ring is one of 13 fortresses, which reinforced the outer town wall. The building carries the name Fleischerbastei, because men form the butcher guild had to safeguard this section of the town wall during the danger of war. The Fleischerbastei was used for meetings and events, as granary and military hospital. It became late a town garden centre and residential building.
