Schwalmtal consists of the two town districts of Amern and Waldniel. It is surrounded by a landscape typical of this part of the Lower Rhine area and is located in the easterly part of the nature reserve park Maas-Schwalm-Nette. Schwalmtal is also called "The valley of the mills".
These are water mills like the mills in Lüttelforst and in Mühlrath.
The hotel restaurant "Mühlrather Mühle" at the Harik lake has a very beautiful beer garden and offers in addition fish farming, sale of venison, round trips on the Harik lake in the "Patschel" and a boat rental service.
