The pretty Echtz swimming lake near Düren is a remaining lake from the former open pit coal mine Alfred. Coal was mined there from 1918 to 1941. The lake is open to the public every year from the 29th of April. The swimming lake with outdoor swimming pool offers lots of space not only to big and small keen swimmers but also a great sandy beach and green sunbathing lawns to relax.
Shade is being provided by the large tree population around the lake. But there are also a sun loungers and parasols for hire. Toddlers are happiest at the separate splashing area and there is a playground for frolicking and romping around. If you come early you have the chance of a relaxed day in one of the small coves.
For those who want to do sports can dive in the 18 metres deep lake, do scuba diving and sailing. Rowing boats and paddleboats can be hired directly at the lake. The DLRG village group Aldenhoven is responsible for the lifeguards. Situated directly at the lake is a camping site and a restaurant.
