Smock Mill in Straupitz

Straupitz is the largest land communities of the Spreewald. Hiking friends will find numerous sign-posted hiking paths, which run through the most loveliest scenic areas of the region. There is also a lot to be discovered in the village itself, for example the Schinkel-Church, the park or the smock mill.

The mill in Straupitz unites three mills. Part of it are a Grain mill, oil mill and  sawmill are part of it. The grain mill has a grinding output of 1,5t per day. The oil mill still presses linseed oil today. The sawmill technique stems from the year 1885. It is only in used for presentations. The mill is ca 15m high and has a sail span of 22m. The mill stretches altogether over five floors. The brick stone mill exists since 1810. Its predecessor was a post mill. The very derelict mill was expensively restored until the end of 2002. Today it is a technical monument and the only functional treble mill in Germany.
