In the year 2003 10 men got together, founded the shanty group 'Wolken Wind & Wogen' and committed themselves to traditional maritime songs. Under the musical management of Bernd Hildebrand from Völkersen a practise evening takes place in the in the group's own premises once a week. New and also old songs are being rehearsed and refreshed. Besides, one doesn't shy away from experimenting with songs to give them a new interpretion. The repertoire consists at the moment of ca. 80 songs, which are being presented mostly in several part harmony. There are four 'Shanty-men' (precentor) available for songs, which require a solo voice. The singers are being supported instrumentally by accordion and guitar. In the course of five years the group was able to book well over 100 gigs. For example at family celebrations, club jubilees or similar events. Performances are being given not only at home but also in Stralsund, Düsseldorf, Kühlungsborn, Rostock and Bad Bentheim whereby the social aspect also plays a part. At times there are scheduling problems. For that reason we are looking more singers. Most of all we need an accordion player to strengthen our instrument part of the group. We would favour a player who can play without sheet music. If you are interested in maritime music and love to be active with same minded people please contact us.
