Since 1989 the bronze sculpture 'Animus Anima' by the Hude artist Wolf E. Schultz stands at Alten Markt, directly next to the 'Speicher' at the entrance of the pedestrian zone (access via Borsteler Landstraße).

The sculpture depicts a tightly embracing couple. The sculpture stands in a fountain, which was used by market user and animals in the past. The market fountain has been rebuilt in remembrance to that past time in 1988.
