'Jan von Moor', that's what the townsfolk would call the peat barge skipper on their black boats from the moor. In the past, impassable moor and wetlands were spread out in north of Bremen. The main income for the settlers was to cut the peat and then sell it on. The peat was transported on very simple, long and narrow barges to Bremen. In town, peat was very sought after as fuel.
With the peat barges from bras e.V., you are able to get to know the former wetlands and moor areas between the Blockland and Teufelsmoor from the river. The still existing wetland, where once people lead a long fight against the water, has become a landscape, which is worth protecting.
