Monastery Uetersen

The origin of the town Uetersen is tightly connected with this monastery.

Castle gifted
In the 13th-century, exactly in the year 1235, the knight Heinrich of Barmstede, founder of the town, gifted his castle to the Cistercian nuns to construct a convent. This lead to further settlement and a long time after that the settlement received the town charter in 1870.

Twee facility
The original monastery facility doesn't exist anymore today but the monastery itself is still in operation. Today in the form of a noble women's convent, which is being managed in typical Holstein red brick houses in the old town quarter. There are for example the house Priörin, the Probst-house and the Vorwerk.


Break in old town flair
The historical prioress house is twee in any case, it stems from the year 1664. Today it houses a restaurant. Romantic pure. You are able to exchange wedding vows here in this old building on 365 days a year. It is one of three of Uetersen's registeries.
