The fascination using a lock
You can observe how fascinating the use of a lock is at the lock facilities in Friedrichsfeld.
At the large towing lock from the bridge at the lower gate you can very well look at the interior of the facility and observe the vessels entering and departing the lock.
Hereafter a few photos reflecting the lock usage of the tug-barge formation Bodensee/Walensee on 30/12/2012.

after about 20 minutes the lock operation is completed and the tug-barge formation Bodensee/Walensee with a length of 167 m, a width of 10m, a draft of 3,11 m and a deadweight of 3506 ts is on its way to the river Rhine.
