The former church village Bockwitz forms today the village Lauchhammer-Mitte. It is with a population of 8.598 (status: 31.12.2003) one of the town's most populated. The town district leaned onto the fringe of the Lausitzer ridge of hills of the extended mountain range, which fell in the last decades victim to extensive mining.
