Far stretched, bedded into a shallow basin, which covers the area between the Steinbühl, being a foothill of the Elfas, and the Klapperberg, is the village of Kohnsen located. Clearly recognisable is its three partly division. The lower district of the village is the largest part and surrounds the church. There you find the oldest houses. In the West the Kattensieg is located. In the North exists the third part of the village >Neue Reihe< which was created through the allotment of a farm stead in the years 1905 - 08.
The name of the town developed from "Chusinhausen" via "Cusinhausen", "Kosenhausen" and "Kosensen" to Kohnsen.
First documented reference of the town were recorded in the year 1063. They came from the imperator Heinrichs IV. From the 13th until the 19th century the Einbecker Marienstift owned in Kohnsen the tenth part duty rights.
In the year 1446 the Klapperturm (tower), located south of the town, was built. The Klapperturm was an integral part of the Einbecker Landwehr which ensured the safety of the town and the roads leading from Kohnsen to Lüthorst.
Kohnsen was integrated into the community of the city of Einbeck in 1974.
