Hainewalde - Place of gentle tourism

Hainewalde is a former Waldhufen village, which was first mentioned beginning of the 14th century. The Mandau, which has its source in the neighbouring Czech Republic, runs right through the middle of the village. Ca 1830 inhabitants live here. Century old traces have been left mostly by Haarboden weaver and sieve maker. Today lovely restored Umgebinde-houses are witnesses of the once gruelling craft.

The last resting place of the former lordships - the Kanitz-Kyaw´sche tomb, built on the graveyard premises in 1715, counts today as one of the most important works in Baroque tomb art in Saxony and is probably one of a kind. The connection between life and death embody the 17 nearly life-size sandstone figures, which seem to carry the tomb. A well cared for warrior monument next to the graveyard refers to the victims of the two World Wars.

Largely known is the Himmelsbrücke (Heaven's Bridge) - in the vernacular also called Ochsenbrücke (Ox-Bridge) - which spans the Mandau arch like in the upper village.
