The district Mettmann is situated between the urban centres at the Rhine, Ruhr und Wupper. With a population of more than 500.000 residents on around 400sq.km, it is Germany's most densely populated district. Still, it offers a charming and diverse landscape: From the Lower Bergish downs in the east (up to 300m above sea level) the terrain plunges down in steps up to 30m above sea level at the Rhine in Monheim. Around 60% of the district area is agricultural area or forest.

A diverse flourishing economy, the close proximity to the large cities and at the same time a considerable number of attractive nearby recreational areas right at the doorstep - That is a good piece of life quality: Anger Valley, Elfringhauser Schweiz, Hildener Heath, Itter Valley, Neander Valley, Schwarzbach Valley, Vogelsangbach Valley, Windrather Valley. Picturesque heights and valleys offer tranquillity and recreation.

There are also lovely places in the historical village centres, which are ideal for reflection.

It may be allowed at this point to single out one example: The village centre of Velbert-Langenberg for instance is considered as one of the best preserved historical villages in North Rhine Westphalia.
