• The Roman route from Detmold to Xanten will bring the cyclist onto the paths of the Romans. Datteln touches it in the village of Ahsen, accompanies for a bit the Wesel-Datteln-Canal to a highlight of the route, the Westphalian Roman Museum in Haltern.
• The bicycle circular path Ruhr meanders around the Ruhr area, always on bicycle-friendly tracks, mostly through green belts or around towns. The Datteln section of the route runs through the farming communities Pelkum, Natrop, Klostern, Redde and Bockum.
• On the 100 palace-route you are able to visit moated castles, palaces and castles of the Münsterland. Datteln reaches the route with different main and connection paths in Ahsen at the Lippe river and at the Wesel-Datteln-Canal.
• The Emscher-Park-cycle-path runs through the northern Ruhr area from Duisburg-Ruhrort to Hamm-Heesen. The main focus of this track are the monuments of the industry culture like the landscaped park Duisburg-Nord or the Schleusenpark Waltrop and park and cultural landscapes like the terrain of the horticultural show in Lünen or the art-forest Teutoburgia in Herne. Since 1999, there is also the opportunity to cycle from the 'Dattelner Meer' directly to the 'real' sea. The first continuous cycling track along the Dortmund-Ems-Canal runs from Dortmund via Datteln to the German North Sea coast.
