The Europa-Center characterises the centre west of Berlin, together with the Memorial Church and the Kurfürstendamm.

On April 2005, the 40-year existence was celebrated.
An attraction is the Puro Sky Lounge on the 20th floor of the Europa-Center, which grants an impressive view over Berlin and has made the Berlin nightlife even more attractive.

The Europa-Center, 22 floors and 86m high (with the Mercedes-star 103m), was constructed from 1963 to 1965, in the place of the former 'Romanischen Café' under the management of Karl Heinz Pepper. It was the largest and boldest enterprise of post-war time. The people of Berlin baptised the shopping centre with over 90.000sqm floor space 'Pepper's Manhattan'. The house offers over 100 boutiques and shops on three floors. Restaurants invite a stay. The Palace-Hotel with its famous restaurant 'First Floor' is also located in the house as well as the cabaret 'Die Stachelschweine' (The Porcupines).

A 13m high water clock, designed by the French professor Gitton - the Clock of Flowing Time - decorates the building. Coloured water in globules on two pillars, demonstrates the evanescence and eternal time. More than 25000 Berlin citizens and tourists visit the Europa-Center daily.

At the foot of the terrace café at the Europa-Center, is the lotus fountain, situated in a water basin, a fascinating water play of stainless steel blossoms. The fountain was created in 1975, by the Paris artists Bernard and Francois Baschet for the Berlin National Gallery. In 1981 it was in the way, and in 1982 the artwork was given to the newly created forum of the Europa-Center on permanent loan.

In front of the house on the Breitscheidplatz, next to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche, one can admire, since 1983, the big globe fountain made of red granite with bronze figure decoration by Joachim Schmettau, named by the Berlin people 'Wasserklops' (water meatball).
