Ernst-Barlach-Museum in Wedel

The painter, sculptor and writer Ernst Barlach (1870 - 1938) was born in this classism middle-class house, which is situated directly at the main road.

Old art
The exhibition shows several sculptures and nearly 100 drawings, in addition photo documentation about the life of the 'dramatic composing sculptor' Barlach. Also to be seen are original letters, first editions of his works and manuscripts and the originals of his dramas.

Young art
Every two years the Ernst Barlach Prize is being awarded. Supporter is the Ernst Barlach Gesellschaft Hamburg e.V. The prize recipient has then the honour that the museum is dedicated to him or her only for four weeks. It will be altered so that his works can be presented. At the right wall, next to the entrance one can see all previous winners.
