Community Kalefeld

Near the Harz is the community Kalefeld situated. The total area of the community region is ca. 84 km².

Together with the two larger villages Kalefeld and Echte and the villages Dögerode, Düderode, Eboldshausen, Oldenrode, Oldershausen, Sebexen, Westerhof, Wiershausen and Willershausen the community Kalefeld has a population of around 7.300. The community was founded in the year 1974. Kalefeld is with the motorway access Echte directly connected with the A7. In the east of the community is a large nature reserve situated. Solling, Oberharz and the Weser Hills can be reached in a very short time.

The village Kalefeld has a population of around 1.700 and is the largest village in the same-named community. Kalefeld was first mentioned in a document in the year 889. Kalefeld was probably founded as Frankish forest estate, wich was used for the managing and administration of the Westerhöfer forest. Well worth seeing is the Church of Our Lady,, built in the year 1870 and the Weissenwasser church an old baptistery in the area of the Kahlberg, which was mentioned for the first time in the year 1055.


The voluntary fire brigade in Kalefeld was founded in the year 1899. The youth fire brigade was founded in Kalefeld in in 1969. The fire brigade bad exists since 1929.
